SMEG, Stove and Refrigerater, Guastalla, 1992

Our first project for smeg with Isotta Saccani was redesigning a economical gas stove. The original piece had a very low target and the company was seeking to review that product at the lowest possible cost aiming at a somewhat higher market segment. Among many small changements new regulator nobs and handles have been designed and for the first time colour was introduced in a gas oven. That is not so easy since the cooking field is enamelled and the rest varnished. Usually everything enamelled is white and different pieces of various products can be enamelled in the same plant. In this case long changeover times for relatively few pieces have to be taken in account. Starting with two green stoves of 60 and 90 cm width also a blue, a white and a stainless steel version as well as matching refrigerators of different seizes have been developed and produced.
